The Family Travel Packing Checklist
Pack for a family trip without forgetting the small essentials: build a list from your actual trip, organize it by section, and keep a travel-day survival kit.
The things you forget on a family trip are rarely the big ones — it's the charger, the comfort toy, the spare outfit for the inevitable spill. A checklist built from your actual trip catches them.
Build the list from the trip you're taking
A generic list is easy to ignore. One shaped by your trip type, climate, and who's coming is one you'll actually use. Generate it a few days early so there's time to buy or wash anything missing.
Organize it the way you'll pack
Group items into sections so you can pack room by room and bag by bag, instead of scrolling one long list.
- Carry-on survival kit: snacks, water, a change of clothes, chargers, comfort item.
- Clothing, by person and day.
- Toiletries and any everyday health items.
- Documents and tickets (the printout, not the numbers).
- Entertainment for the journey.

Common mistakes
- Packing the survival kit deep in a checked bag.
- Leaving the list until the night before.
- Forgetting the return trip — reuse the list to pack up.
- Writing sensitive numbers on a list you'll carry with you.
