Pains of this kind are part of the reactions of a woman’s body during pregnancy and are a normal thing, taking into account the physical and hormonal changes that occur during the 3 trimesters of pregnancy.
Why back pain occurs during pregnancy
The main cause of the discomfort felt in the back and not only is related to the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. Hormones have the role of facilitating the process that includes pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding. That is why they are also present after women give birth to be able to breastfeed and help the little one to develop. These hormones – oxytocin, prolactin, relaxin – do not disappear immediately after birth. They are present, in quite large quantities, until 3-4 months after birth.
The extra kilos. Weight gain is one of the main factors that cause back pain during pregnancy. Things get complicated if the weight exceeds 15 kilograms over the initial one, because the pain intensifies and can favor the onset of more important ailments.
Changing the center of gravity. The expansion of the uterus and the increase in volume of the abdomen lead to a change in the center of gravity of a pregnant woman. What does this thing mean? Simple: changing posture and body position, which causes pain in the spine and an increased risk of tripping or falling.
