Bad psychology and mood results in us resorting to so-called comfort food in an attempt to feel better. These foods are usually high in fat and calories, and while we may think they improve our mood, they actually do the exact opposite.

A recent study compiled data on diet and depression rates. According to the results from 25,000 participants those who ate walnuts had the least symptoms of depression. More specifically, they reported feeling less feelings of anxiety and hopelessness than the other participants, and they also had more interest in activities.

Black chocolate

According to research, consuming dark chocolate reduces symptoms of depression and improves mood. However, it is important to observe the measure as dark chocolate contains sugar and has a high caloric value.

Green tea contains a large amount of L-theanine, an amino acid that helps transmit nerve impulses in the brain and increases the production of dopamine and serotonin, two mood-enhancing substances.

Blueberries

Blueberries are one of the most nutritious fruits out there. They have many benefits for the body and one of them is that they improve mood. Blueberries, for example, contain antioxidants that work by fighting free radicals and reducing stress.
