Amplifies leg and muscle pain

From the 22nd week of pregnancy, a quarter of pregnant women have leg cramps. By wearing high-heeled shoes, the pain caused by fluid retention in the legs can intensify, increasing the discomfort.

Another inconvenience caused by wearing high-heeled shoes for a long time is the contraction of the leg muscles, especially in the calf area. Muscle cramps can be even more painful than those that usually occur in the last months of pregnancy.

They increase the risk of osteoporosis

Wearing high-heeled shoes also affects the cartilage in the knee area. In general, women who wear such shoes bend their knees while walking, and their tension can lead, over time, to diseases such as osteoporosis or arthritis. Their first symptoms are joint pain and stiffness.

It tenses the sciatic nerve

During pregnancy, high heels put pressure on the sciatic nerve. It starts from the lower back towards the legs. Because of this, complications can occur.

Among the signs of damage to this nerve that should prompt you to give up heels are:

  • The numbness felt in the legs,
  • The tingling
  • The stings.

I’m weakening your ligaments

During the 9 months of pregnancy, the center of gravity changes. For this reason, wearing heels is riskier, possibly causing falls. Moreover, the ligaments become weak due to hormonal changes and the balance is reduced.
